My First Gruner Veltliner

Saturday night, we cracked open the 2020 D’Alfonso-Curran Gruner Veltliner that I brought home after tasting it at The Wine Crush‘s Central Coast themed tasting. Like the night before, I instantly detected peaches and honey on the nose. The honey also lingered on the palate. And Anthony – who always jokes to me that wine tastes like grapes just to make me giggle— also detected the aroma of honey. I had a feeling he would! This wine knocked our slippers off. The acidity was so refreshing and the flavor and aroma popped.

We paired it with take-out sushi from 39 Degrees in Long Beach. This place is 3 blocks away and the sushi was wonderful. We ordered the typical spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and yellow tail, and we added 2 specialty rolls — the Fantastic roll and the Incredible roll. The names were NOT an exaggeration. Both of these were full of flavor and beautifully balanced. We found our local sushi spot at last!
